Print-on-demand pricing basics
Two POD models
Marketplace POD (TeePublic, Redbubble) sets a base production price; you add a markup that becomes your margin when an order sells. Fulfillment connectors (Printify) quote product + print cost; you set retail price on your own shop and pay marketplace fees separately.
Thin margins are normal on single units because production and payment costs are front-loaded. Compare markups or retail prices with our POD calculators, then stress-test with a lower selling price to see whether ads or discounts still leave room.
Costs people forget
Optional per-sale lines include design tools, samples, and allocated ad spend. Site-wide sales on marketplace POD can reduce buyer price and your margin on those orders — read the platform’s promo rules before you assume full markup.
Shipping may be included in the list price or charged separately; enter what you actually pay or absorb so the calculator matches your listing strategy.
