Yarn quantity depends on your gauge as much as the pattern’s, and gauge is personal — two people working the same pattern with the same yarn and hook can produce noticeably different fabric. Work a swatch and compare before buying for a large project, and remember that crochet generally consumes more yarn than knitting for the same area, while textured stitches consume more than plain ones. For cross-stitch, finished dimensions come from stitch count divided by fabric count, so the same design worked on 14-count and 18-count Aida ends up quite different in size; add a margin on every edge for framing. On pricing, the common mistake is charging only for materials: the labour tool exists because hand-made work takes hours that a materials-plus-a-bit price never recovers.
