Soul urge (heart's desire)
The soul urge number — heart's desire in some books — uses only the vowels (A, E, I, O, U) in your name. Each vowel carries its Pythagorean value, the vowels are summed, and the total is reduced with master numbers preserved when they appear.
Y is treated as a consonant here, matching the most common Pythagorean worksheets. If your tradition counts Y as a vowel when it sounds like one, results may differ — note that when comparing to printed charts.
Example: "Anna Lee" → vowels A, A, E, E → 1+1+5+5 = 12 → 1+2 = 3. Consonants are ignored entirely for this number.
Common questions
Why only vowels?
Pythagorean soul urge traditionally sums vowel values to reflect inner motivation. Consonants feed the personality number instead.
What about the letter Y?
Uses the Pythagorean (Latin A–Z) system only. Diacritics are stripped. Chaldean numerology uses different letter values. Y is counted as a consonant in this tool. Some authors move Y to vowels when it carries a vowel sound — check your source if numbers differ.
Can I use a nickname?
