Payroll & salary

Paycheck and offer math for US workers: convert salary to hourly and back, estimate overtime at 1.5×, rough gross-to-net from a deduction percentage, raise impact on annual pay, and cost-of-living salary equivalents between cities. Planning estimates only — not tax, legal, or payroll advice; verify withholding and local rules with your employer or a professional.

These tools model simplified US rules and will not reproduce your pay stub exactly. Actual withholding depends on your Form W-4 entries, filing status, pre-tax deductions such as retirement contributions and health premiums, Social Security’s annual wage cap, and state and local taxes that range from nothing to several percent. Overtime eligibility is a legal question about how your role is classified rather than a matter of arithmetic, and salaried exempt employees are generally not owed the 1.5× premium. When comparing two offers, convert both to the same basis first, then weigh benefits, employer retirement match, and cost of living, since those routinely outweigh a modest difference in headline salary. Always reconcile against your actual pay stub.
