The Hijri calendar is lunar: months begin when a new crescent is observed or when an official table says 1 Muharram, 1 Ramadan, and so on should fall. Gregorian dates are solar. Converting between them requires a published calendar method — not mental math.
Umm al-Qura is widely used in Saudi Arabia and many online tools. Tabular civil Hijri uses a fixed 30-year leap cycle and is deterministic worldwide. The two can differ by a day from each other or from local moon-sighting announcements.

Does the Islamic day start at midnight?
Traditionally the date can change after Maghrib (sunset). This tool uses Gregorian midnight for day boundaries unless noted — a same-day ±1 difference is possible near month boundaries.
