What is a half birthday?

A half birthday falls six calendar months after your birth date — the midpoint between one birthday and the next. Schools and families sometimes celebrate half birthdays when a winter birth date makes outdoor summer parties difficult, or when siblings want a second cake day.

This calculator adds six months to your birth month/day and finds the next occurrence on or after today. Month-end dates follow calendar rules: a January 31 half birthday lands on July 31 when that day exists, otherwise the last valid day of the target month.

Example: born February 10 → half birthday August 10 each year. Born August 29 → next half birthday around February 28 or 29 depending on leap years. The countdown updates daily based on your browser's current date unless you bookmark a fixed reference.

Common questions

Is a half birthday the same as six months old?

For babies, "six months old" is an age milestone from the birth date. A half birthday here is the calendar date six months after your birth month/day each year — related idea, different framing.

How is this different from the age calculator?

The age calculator reports years, months, and days since birth. This tool finds one specific future date — your next half-birthday — and counts down to it.

What about leap-day birthdays?

February 29 births follow standard calendar month arithmetic. In non-leap years the half-birthday may fall on August 29 or the last valid August day depending on how the date rolls.
