Marketplace fees explained

Why fees stack instead of adding once

Most marketplaces charge more than one fee on the same order. A typical stack includes a listing or insertion fee when you publish, a transaction fee on the order total (often including shipping you charge the buyer), and payment processing on the amount the customer pays. Offsite ads or promoted listings may add another percent when they attribute the sale.

Because percentages apply to different bases, you cannot eyeball net profit by subtracting one headline rate. Use a fee calculator with your item price, shipping, and country, then compare the net to your cost of goods and labor.

What to verify on the platform

Fee pages change by category, seller country, and currency. Before you reprice inventory, open the platform’s current fee schedule and your payments dashboard for a recent order of similar size. Calculators on Calcometry use published defaults with a last reviewed date where rates are sensitive.
