Apparel size charts
Ready-to-wear clothing uses regional size labels that do not convert perfectly. Women's US sizes are often numeric (0, 4, 8…) or lettered (XS–XXL); EU uses numeric bust/waist approximations; UK uses its own even-number scale for women and chest inches for men.
This tool maps common letter and numeric US sizes to approximate EU and UK equivalents for tops and dresses. Dresses, jeans, and bras each use different charts — check the brand size guide for the garment type you are buying.
Example: women's US M (about size 8–10) ≈ EU 40, UK 12. Men's US M (36–38 in chest) ≈ EU 46, UK 36. Treat as a starting point, not a guarantee.
Vanity sizing means a US 8 in one brand can fit like a US 6 in another. Body measurements in centimetres or inches beat label numbers — bust, waist, and hip for women's tops and dresses; chest and waist for men's.
EU and UK numeric systems grade differently from US numbers. A women's US 8–10 often maps near EU 40 and UK 12, but Italian, French, and German brands can sit half a size apart even within the EU label. Use the brand's own chart when ordering internationally.
This crosswalk covers tops and dress-style numeric and letter sizes. Jeans use waist and inseam in inches or centimetres; bras use band and cup; suits use chest and jacket length — each needs its own chart rather than this converter.
Letter sizes (XS–XXL) are the least precise. A men's US M typically spans about 36–38 in chest, but some athletic brands cut larger and some fashion brands cut smaller. Prefer the numeric or measurement entry when both are available.
Secondhand and marketplace listings often mix systems in one title. Convert the label you actually see on the garment tag, then compare to your own measurements — not the seller's claimed equivalent.
Vanity sizing means US 8 in one brand fits like US 6 in another — body measurements beat label numbers.
International secondhand marketplaces list mixed systems — convert the label you see before ordering.
Common questions
Why doesn't EU 38 fit the same everywhere?
EU numbers on labels are not standardized body measurements — brands grade differently. Always check the brand's cm/in chart when available.
Does this cover jeans or bras?
No. This tool is for general tops/dress letter and numeric crosswalks. Jeans waist sizes and bra band/cup systems need separate charts.
What US number should I enter?
For women, enter numeric dress size (0, 2, 4…) — the tool maps to the nearest letter band. For men, enter chest measurement in inches (34, 36, 38…).
