This calculator uses sun signs only — a simplified snapshot of one chart placement. Real synastry compares full birth charts: moon signs for emotional rhythm, Venus and Mars for attraction and conflict style, house overlays, and major aspects between planets. Treat results here as conversation starters, not verdicts on whether a relationship will succeed or fail.

The scoring model follows traditional element harmony tables found in introductory astrology books. Same-element pairs (two fire signs, two earth signs) typically score highest. Complementary pairs like fire–air or earth–water often land in a balanced middle tier. Cross-element combinations that share neither element nor traditional complement may read as challenging — meaning symbolic friction, not incompatibility.

Worked example: select Leo and Libra. Leo is fixed fire; Libra is cardinal air. Many horoscope sources describe fire–air as stimulating — Leo brings warmth and visibility while Libra adds social grace and balance. The calculator returns a tier and numeric score based on element rules, plus a short traditional summary you can compare against your own experience.

Another worked example: Taurus and Virgo, both mutable earth in some tables (Taurus is fixed earth, Virgo is mutable earth). Earth–earth pairings are often described as steady, practical, and routine-oriented in pop astrology. Two people with those sun signs may share a preference for reliability in symbolic readings even when their full charts differ sharply.

Challenging pairings in astrology folklore describe different tempos, not doomed relationships. Communication, shared values, life stage, and context matter far more than sun signs alone. Couples with "low" compatibility scores build lasting partnerships every day; high scores do not guarantee harmony.
