How many tables do I need?
Table count is your guest count divided by seats per table, rounded up to the next whole table — you can't book a fraction of a table, and it's rare for every table to be filled exactly to capacity.
Rounds of 8 or 10 are the most common seating sizes for wedding receptions. Fewer seats per table (6–8) tends to feel more intimate and makes conversation easier; larger rounds (10–12) fit more guests per table but can feel more crowded.
Example: 95 guests at 10 seats per table needs 10 tables (ceil(95 ÷ 10) = 10), leaving 5 empty seats spread across the reception — plan your floor layout and centerpieces around the actual table count, not just the guest count.
Common questions
Why does the calculator round up instead of down?
You need enough tables to seat everyone — rounding down would leave some guests without a seat. Rounding up means a few tables may have empty seats, which is normal.
How many guests should sit at each table?
8 or 10 guests per table is the most common range for wedding receptions, balancing conversation, elbow room, and venue floor space — check your venue's standard rounds before finalizing.
