Swim pace
Pool swimming pace is usually expressed as time per 100 meters (or per 100 yards in US pools). Divide total seconds by distance in hundreds — 500 m in 8:20 (500 sec) → 100 sec per 100 m → 1:40/100m.
Long-course (50 m) and short-course (25 yd) pools use the same pace math — only the unit label changes. Open-water pace is slower due to sighting, currents, and no wall push-offs.
Example: 1500 m in 28:00 → 1680 sec ÷ 15 = 112 sec/100m → 1:52 per 100 m.
Common questions
Meters or yards?
Select your pool unit. 100 m and 100 yd differ by about 9% — do not mix them when comparing paces.
Should I include rest in pace?
This calculator uses continuous time over total distance. For interval sets with rest, use only the swimming time or calculate pace per rep separately.
