Pet ownership planning — not veterinary advice: dog and cat age in human years using AAHA-style charts, monthly food and walking costs, annual budget totals, boarding estimates, litter box counts, aquarium volume, and calendar age from a pet’s birthday. No medication or clinical nutrition dosing — ask your vet for health decisions.

The familiar “one dog year equals seven human years” rule is wrong at both ends of a dog’s life. Dogs mature very quickly in their first two years, then age at a rate that depends heavily on size: a giant breed is considered senior around six or seven, while a small terrier may not be until ten or eleven. Our chart follows that size-adjusted approach, which is why a Great Dane and a Chihuahua of the same calendar age return different results. Cost tools are budgeting aids built from typical figures and will not match your area, and they deliberately exclude the expenses that matter most — emergency veterinary care and chronic conditions. Nothing here covers dosing, diet prescriptions, or clinical decisions; those belong with your veterinarian.
