Every digit in month, day, and year is added together, then reduced to a single digit — unless the total is a master number (11, 22, or 33), which many traditions keep unreduced. This tool uses Gregorian calendar digits only — no time of birth, no location, and no name letters. Different schools (Chaldean, Kabbalistic) assign different meanings and sometimes different reduction rules; this calculator follows the widely taught Pythagorean method on Latin-script dates. Worked example: July 4, 1990 → write as 0+7+0+4+1+9+9+0 = 30 → 3+0 = 3. The life path is 3. Another example: a birth date whose digits sum to 29 would reduce 2+9 = 11 and stop there as a master number rather than continuing to 2.

Master numbers 11, 22, and 33 are preserved when the birth-date total hits those values before final reduction — not every practitioner uses them, and some authors treat master numbers as "higher octave" versions of 2, 4, and 6. When this calculator returns 11, 22, or 33, the summary notes that the value was not reduced further.

Life path pairs naturally with name numbers — expression (all letters), soul urge (vowels), and personality (consonants) — for a fuller chart. Many readers start with life path because only a birth date is required, then add name calculations when the full legal or preferred name is available.

If your legal birth date differs from the date you use culturally — for example, adoption paperwork versus family celebration — run both dates separately to see how sensitive the number is. Numerology here is symbolic vocabulary for journaling and curiosity, not fate, medical guidance, or license for major life decisions.
