Days Until Calculator

A days-until countdown measures whole calendar days between an as-of date and a target date. Pick today as the as-of date for a live countdown to a wedding, vacation, deadline, or holiday.

When the target date has passed, the calculator shows zero days remaining rather than a negative count — check the summary for whether the event is past. For pregnancy due dates, the pregnancy countdown tool adds gestational context.

Example: as of July 31, 2026 until December 25, 2026 → 147 days remaining (about 21 weeks). Change the target to any future milestone.

A countdown answers a different question from a duration, and the difference is one day. Days remaining is exclusive of today: if your event is tomorrow, one day remains, even though the span touching both dates covers two calendar days. Use this figure for “how many sleeps” and a date-difference calculation for “how long is the gap”.

Converting the result into weeks is often more useful than the raw number. 147 days is 21 weeks exactly, which tells you the same weekday recurs — useful for anything scheduled on a fixed day, like a weekly delivery or a class. Dividing by 7 and looking at the remainder tells you how far the target drifts from today's weekday.

Every calendar day counts here, including weekends and public holidays. That is the right basis for a wedding or a holiday countdown, but the wrong basis for most contractual deadlines — a “30 day” notice period counted in calendar days can land nearly a week earlier than the same period counted in business days.

For planning purposes, remaining days are not the same as available days. Subtract weekends, holidays, and anything already committed before treating a countdown as a work budget: 60 calendar days to a launch is closer to 40 working days, and fewer once existing obligations are removed.

Whole-day counting also means the answer is insensitive to clock time and time zone. A target later today still reads zero, and travelling across time zones does not change the count, because both values are calendar dates taken from the picker rather than instants in UTC.

For legal or contract deadlines, confirm whether the agreement counts calendar days, business days, or includes the start date — this tool counts whole calendar days only.

Whole-day rounding means events later today may still show zero if as-of and target share the same calendar date.

Include the target date in your planning even when the counter reads zero on the day itself — same-day events show zero remaining.

Time zones do not change whole-day counts when both dates are calendar dates without clock times — midnight boundaries follow the date picker, not UTC offset.
