The detail that catches most people out is the year boundary. The Chinese zodiac year does not begin on 1 January but at Lunar New Year, which falls between late January and late February, so anyone born in January or early February belongs to the previous year’s animal — a common source of wrong answers from simpler tools. Korean age is a separate convention again: traditionally a person was considered one year old at birth and gained a year at New Year rather than on their birthday, though South Korea standardised on international age counting in law in 2023, so which figure applies now depends on the context. Lunisolar calendars insert leap months on cycles that our simplified converters approximate, so verify any date that matters for an observance against an authoritative local calendar.
